Lubbock Celebrates Juneteenth
LUBBOCK, TEXAS- Lubbock’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration, Rise Up Weekend, will kick off on Thursday June 15th with the Mr. and Miss Juneteenth Pageant, with activities throughout the weekend and end on Monday June 19th ( the Juneteenth Holiday ) with the Freedom Celebration and the H-E-B Fireworks Show. With Juneteenth around the corner, the Lubbock Juneteenth Committee encourages the community to join them for Rise Up Weekend, a Juneteenth Celebration. Rise Up Weekend is a celebration for all, a time to reflect on the importance of coming together as a community and acknowledging the triumphs of the past. Juneteenth is a national holiday that celebrates African American freedom and every action taken to be where our nation is today.
Rise Up Weekend will provide a variety of family friendly activities for all ages including new experiences this year. The weekend will kick off on Thursday, June 16 with the annual
Mr. and Miss Juneteenth pageant (tickets are available on the website). Highlights of the weekend include: free events include the Annual Senior Breakfast, United Supermarkets Juneteenth parade, (Saturday) Starcare Health System Health Fair and Madera Kids’ Zone. (Sunday) Gospel festival with national recording artist Chester D.T. Baldwin and the finale (Monday) Freedom Celebration with live music including the Grammy-nominated Don Diego band, and H-E-B Fireworks! (full schedule of events available on website).
